The Village Hall and the Caretaker's Cottage were given to the Community by Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan Bt in 1938 at the time he was contemplating the gift of the Wallington Estate to the National Trust.
Originally the Cottage was the Schoolmaster's House with a Schoolroom for a single class at its east end. A plaque on the side of the building records the alteration of the Schoolhouse and enlargement to a Hall and Reading Room by Sir George Otto Trevelyan Bt in 1911. Below that plaque another records that Lancelot ( Capability ) Brown the Landscape Gardener, born in the nearby village of Kirkharle, attended school here. The foundations of the schoolroom he may have known were discovered below the floor of the Hall when the new oak floor was installed in 2014.
At the north-west corner of the site is a large Recreation Room with a billiard table. The Library in the Reading Room was removed in the l960s and it serves now as a Committee Room. A further extension built in 2000 to the north of the Hall provided improved toilets and storage.
